  • 1 tablespoon red food coloring
  • 1 tablespoon black food coloring

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, sift together the flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, mix the buttermilk, vegetable oil, eggs, vanilla extract, red food coloring, and black food coloring.
  4. Combine the wet and dry ingredients until well blended.
  5. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans.
  6. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  7. Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
