Chicken Shawarma with Creamy Garlic Sauce

  • 2 pounds chicken thighs
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon ground cumin
  • 1 tablespoon ground paprika
  • 1 teaspoon ground turmeric
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1/2 cup plain yogurt
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced (for sauce)
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 1 teaspoon fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix together olive oil, cumin, paprika, turmeric, cinnamon, minced garlic, salt, black pepper, and lemon juice.
  2. Add the chicken thighs to the bowl and coat well. Marinate for at least 1 hour, ideally overnight.
  3. Preheat your grill or skillet over medium-high heat.
  4. Cook the marinated chicken for 6-7 minutes on each side until fully cooked. Remove and let it rest for a few minutes.
  5. In another bowl, combine yogurt, mayonnaise, minced garlic, and water to make the creamy garlic sauce.
  6. Slice the chicken and serve on a plate. Drizzle with creamy garlic sauce and garnish with fresh parsley.
